Hideki Matsuyama was born 25 February 1992 in Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan.

He learned golf from his father, a former club champion.

He was introduced to golf at the early age of 4 by his father and later studied at Tohoku Fukushi University.

In 2010 he won the Asian Amateur Championship with a score of 68-69-65-67=269. This victory gave him the opportunity to play in the 2011 Masters Tournament as an amateur where he ended up winning the Silver Cup, which is presented to the lowest scoring amateur.

As an amateur he won the 2010 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, 2011 Japan Collegiate Championship, 2011 World University Games, 2011 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship and 2012 Japan Collegiate Championship.

Matsuyama turned professional in April 2013.

He won his firs PGA Tour event, the 2014 Memorial Tournament, in a playoff against Kevin Na. His total score was 275 (-13).

He is the first-ever Japanese professional golfer to win a men's major golf championship, the 2021 Masters Tournament.

Hideki Matsuyama won the 2021 Masters tournament with a total score of -10. Runner up was Will Zalatoris 1 shot behind.

Received the Prime Minister's Award in Japan following his 2021 Masters win.
