Troy Merritt was born on the 25th of October 1985 in Osage, Iowa.
Troy studied at Boise State University.
At Boise State, he became the first All-American in the program's history and won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) individual title in 2008. His collegiate success included a remarkable scoring average of 69.53 and multiple tournament victories, which helped him gain recognition in the golf community.
Troy was first team All-WAC for Boise State and tied the school-record for a low round score when he posted a 62 (-9) in the second round of the District VII Shootout
He turned pro in 2008 and joined the PGA tour in 2010.
Troy began competing on the Nationwide Tour (now known as the Korn Ferry Tour). He secured his first professional victory at the Mexico Open in 2009, winning in a playoff against Adam Bland. This win marked the beginning of his rise in professional golf.
Troy Merritt won his first PGA Tournament, the Quicken Loans National, in 2015. His total score was 266 (-18). Runner up was Rickie Fowler 3 strokes behind.
He won the 2018 Barbasol Championship with a total score of 265 (-23). Runners up were Billy Horschel, Tom Lovelady and Richy Werenski one stroke behind.
He tied for 41st at the 2022 PGA Championship.
